AVONET: Hifadhidata Mpya kwa Ndege wote  

Seti mpya ya data kamili ya sifa za utendakazi kwa ndege wote, iitwayo AVONET, iliyo na vipimo vya zaidi ya ndege 90,000 imetolewa kwa hisani ya juhudi za kimataifa. Hii inaweza kutumika kama nyenzo bora ya kufundisha na kutafiti katika nyanja mbali mbali kama vile mageuzi, ikolojia, bayoanuwai na uhifadhi katika sayansi ya maisha. 

Morphological characteristics function in tandem with the ecological features in defining performance or fitness of an organism in an mazingira. This understanding of functional traits is central to the field of mageuzi na ikolojia. The analysis of variation in functional traits is very helpful in describing evolution, community ecology and ecosystem. However, this requires wide datasets of morphological traits though comprehensive sampling of morphological traits at the species level.  

So far, body mass has been the focus of datasets on morphological traits for animals which has limitations meaning the understanding of functional biology for animals especially ndege have been largely incomplete. 

Hifadhidata mpya, kamili imewashwa ndege, inayoitwa AVONET, yenye vipimo vya zaidi ya ndege 90,000 imetolewa kwa hisani ya juhudi za kimataifa za watafiti.  

Vipimo vingi vya hifadhidata vilifanywa kwenye vielelezo vya makumbusho vilivyokusanywa kwa muda mrefu. Kwa kila ndege binafsi sifa tisa za kimaadili zilipimwa (vipimo vinne vya midomo, vipimo vitatu vya mabawa, urefu wa mkia na vipimo vya chini vya mguu). Msingi wa data unajumuisha vipimo viwili vinavyotokana, uzito wa mwili na faharisi ya bawa la mkono ambavyo vinakokotolewa kutoka kwa vipimo vitatu vya mrengo. Vipimo hivi vilivyotolewa vinatoa wazo la ufanisi wa ndege ambayo ni kiashirio cha uwezo wa spishi kutawanyika au kuzunguka katika mandhari. Kwa ujumla, vipimo vya sifa (hasa za midomo, mbawa na miguu) vinahusiana na vipengele muhimu vya kiikolojia vya viumbe, ikiwa ni pamoja na tabia zao za kulisha.  

AVONET will be an excellent source of information for teaching and research across a wide range of fields like ecology, biodiversity and conservation in the life sciences. This will come handy in investigating ‘rules’ in mageuzi. The derived measurements like the hand-wing index reflect on the dispersal ability of the species to suitable climate zones. The database will also help to understand and predict response of the ecosystems to the changes in environment.  

Katika siku zijazo, hifadhidata itapanuliwa ili kujumuisha vipimo zaidi kwa kila aina na taarifa kuhusu historia ya maisha na tabia.
